Frequently Asked Questions

Why should we work with Consortiq?

In an industry that’s still new, we can give you expert advice. There is still a bit of a gap in the information and services provided, and this is why our offerings are unique. We have years of aviation experience and offer a unique range of ‘mix and match’ services. Working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), we stay at the forefront of legislation – both here and in other countries. Whatever your industry, your budget or your location, we can help you to find the best drone solution.

How can drones assist my organization?

Drones are quickly becoming a way that many businesses solve some of their complex business challenges – whatever your industry. Drones have the ability to help you collect and analyze data that previously would have been hard to come by and expensive to obtain. Talk to us about how we can help you navigate this new industry and assist you in everything from the best type of aerial platform to industry regulations.

What aerial platforms are available and which one is best for my business?

There is a range of platforms to choose from and this can get confusing at the best of times. We are here to help you identify the best platform for you – and we have experience in flying small (1kg multi-rotors) and large (450 kg unmanned aircraft systems).

What can drone technology do to help me achieve my data collection goals?

Each business's need for data is different but drones are an incredibly effective way to capture and collect precise and crucial data. We work closely with you to determine your needs and the best system to use for this.

How can sensors help my business and what different types are there to capture specific data?

There are many types of sensors that can be used on any one platform and, as with the platform, there’s a lot to think about. We can work with you to establish what you need to collect and pair you with the right expertise. Our team is experienced at using their knowledge of legacy data collection methods (radio frequency identification, infrared, LIDAR, GIS, and mapping) and combining it with the latest drone technology to achieve an innovative way of collecting information.

Can’t we just buy and fly our own drones?

Of course, you can purchase your own drone system and implement the policy and strategy around it. However, sometimes it can become all-consuming and there are complex legislations and processes that need to be put into place. Bear in mind that if you do want to fly commercially you must have an approved drone training qualification and make sure you have the right level of insurance.

We’re here to make that process a lot easier – by outsourcing all or part of your operation to us you’ll have all the benefit of drone technology without the hassle.

Do I need a whole new team to cover my drone operations?

This might be the case if you choose to run your own in-house operation. However, if you work with us, we use expert insight to establish where drone technology can fit into your existing operations. From training to data capture, we can find the best solution possible, to mitigate the cost of recruitment and extra resource.

How can you help my company with drone training?

We provide the best drone pilots and trainers and combine this with our cutting edge industry knowledge. Within our team, there are specialists with experience in many industry areas – from media to construction. We offer a diverse range of programs and we can create bespoke courses that can be matched to your needs, whatever your area of work.

How long will it take to learn to fly drones safely?

There are many factors to take into account, but generally, we recommend potential drone pilots obtain at least 10 hours of flying before getting a commercial drone license.

How do I keep updated with drone legislation?

As a new industry, legislation is evolving all the time and in order to run an effective operation, you have to keep up with legislation and liability as it changes. If you choose to work with us, you won’t have to worry about this side of things because that’s what we do. Many of our team sit on US Government working groups and committees and take an active role in shaping the direction of drone legislation.

What happens if I want to fly drones in another country?

Even though our focus on working groups is in the UK and US, we still have an excellent working knowledge of drone legislation and requirements across the world. Once we establish your needs, we can put the right measures in place, which includes liaising with the National Aviation Authority (NAA) in each country.

I’m not sure if I want to outsource my drone solution completely?

That’s not a problem. We are here to work out what’s best for you. You can hand over some aspects to us, and run other areas in-house or you can outsource the whole solution. It’s completely up to you. All we would say about outsourcing to us is that we see the big picture. We can put a definitive strategy in place, and this can be more cost-effective for your business especially if you have complex requirements
